The Wait to Carry the Weight of His Glory
As this blog entry came into my spirit, all I saw was Gideon in the winepress when the Angel of the Lord came and called him a “mighty warrior,” and also Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration. I began to ask myself: How do these two stories correlate? What are You showing me, Lord?
As I pondered these thoughts and stilled my soul to receive from Abba, I began to research both encounters. What stood out to me was that when the Angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, the location where he was standing was the winepress.
The winepress represents seasons of pressure, testing, and refining—moments where what is inside a person is revealed. The grape is not destroyed; it is transformed.
Gideon being in the winepress when the Angel of the Lord appeared to him was not a coincidence. I often say, “Coincidence is a thief of the glory of God.” God orchestrated that very moment to minister to Gideon—who felt as though he was the least in his tribe—to reveal his true identity: a mighty warrior.
Even though He was speaking to Gideon in this particular scripture (Judges 6), He is speaking to me… He is speaking to you. That even in the place of the winepress—the place where we get our feet dirty—God reveals Himself. And when He reveals Himself, He reveals us.
Gideon was in the winepress because he was secretly threshing wheat to hide the grain from Midianite raiders. He was tired of the oppression and opposition. The winepress was the place where he wondered where God was, and yet it became the very place where he experienced divine visitation and transformation.
In Hebrew, one of the words for winepress is “Yeqev,” meaning “where the juice flows after pressing.” This emphasizes outcome and overflow, not just pressure. So wherever the Lord leads your footsteps, know that glory follows because of who you follow and the fruit it bears.
On the Mount of Transfiguration, when Jesus appeared to Peter, James, and John, it served as a revelation of His divine nature—an anticipatory glimpse of His resurrection glory. After this divine encounter, the disciples were left in complete awe of God. Not that they did not know Him before, but this was an intimate place to see Him as He is.
So it should be with us when we are in our own season of the winepress, or “pressing.” What comes out of the pressing is overflow. It is a place where we are built—and then…the glory comes.
After appearing to Gideon in the winepress, he was completely transformed when God spoke a word to him. That word renewed his mind and gave him a fresh perspective. The opposition from the Midianites pushed Gideon into the place of pressing. There is no position without the “opps,” and opposition becomes necessary for preparation.
The two stories correlate because they carry one phenomenal message for us as children of God. He promises to transform. He promises to change. He promises to be in the midst. He promises to correct, redeem, and restore. He will never leave us in the same state He found us in.
It is important to note that the encounter on the Mount of Transfiguration took place before the actual resurrection. This encounter empowered the three disciples, because after it ended, they encountered a demon-possessed boy. The encounter gave them divine power to execute and confront oppression—just as it did Gideon.
To my beloved readers, God wants to shift your perspective and encourage you as you wait to carry the weight of glory. This waiting is necessary for divine execution.
Daddy God,
I pray for the one reading this blog today who feels defeated, like they cannot go on. For the ones who feel forgotten—may You touch their hearts and dry the tears in their eyes as they read the words You have given me to share. I thank You for the reminder You placed on my heart today. I believe that miracles, signs, and wonders are their portion. Give them Your strength and wisdom to face opposition with a fresh perspective. Help us to stop leaning on our own understanding and to give everything to You. May we keep our eyes fixed on You as we wait to carry the weight of Your glory.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen. 🙏🏽
